CHAPTER 15

False Teachers

F alse means fake, counterfeit, copied, artificial. A teacher is an educator, tutor, instructor or a coach (Encarta Dictionary). So, a false teacher is someone who is a fake or a counterfeit. A false teacher uses the wrong information to educate, tutor or coach.

After I got married, I found out that my best friend was involved with a cult. I was not really surprised because she always had a very rebellious spirit. She always wanted to explore the opposite of what society deemed as truth. Unfortunately, this turn of events could have been deadly for her and her daughter.

They joined the Jim Jones group in San Francisco. She and her daughter were with the cult members in California the very day of the mass suicide in Guyana. When she heard what had happened, she grabbed her daughter and ran from the church. She called her husband, who lived back east. He had been looking for both of them. When He heard from them, he wired them money and they flew home. Unfortunately, her antics ruined her marriage and changed her life forever. To this day, I understand that she lives as a recluse and is seldom seen in public.

The problem with a false prophet or teacher is that they speak what people want to hear. They use the Word of God to back it up. They justify wrong behavior and make it sound as if God is okay with it! These false teachers do not produce good fruit or Godly fruit. The only fruit they produce is destruction and everyone in its path is hurt.

A false teacher can ruin a life. A false teacher can be used to place false thoughts in a mind that will lead a person down the path of destruction. The Bible says that “a thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10). That is exactly what a false teacher does.

A false teacher comes to:

*Steal the truth from a person.

* Kill their hopes and dreams.

*Deceive and kill a person physically.

A false teacher can sometimes destroy the destiny that God has for a person.

John 10:6-10: Jesus told this simple story, but they had no idea what He was talking about. So He tried again. “I’ll be explicit, then. I am the Gate for the sheep. All those others are up to no good – sheep stealers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the Gate. Anyone who goes through me will be cared for – will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of (Message Bible).

Years ago, I was asked to be the Women’s Pastor at a small church in Colorado. I was so excited! I knew God had great things in store for me and the women in that church. Unfortunately, there were two women who were on the Church Board of Directors who had different ideas.
